Studio Policy

  • Students are considered fully enrolled within the studio once they or their guardians have scheduled lessons as part of the 2023-2024 academic schedule and paid their first tuition invoice. Lessons may be terminated by the teacher if the student or guardian does not abide by studio polices. Studio policy is subject to change.

  • Students and/or their guardians, in the case of a minor student, will receive a login link and access code to their complimentary portal on MyMusicStaff upon enrollment in the studio. MyMusicStaff provides access to the studio calendar, lesson notes, lesson materials, online lesson zoom links, an online music library, the billing platform and more.

  • All lessons must be pre-booked and prepaid a minimum of 24 hours before the scheduled lesson. Lessons can be rescheduled with at least 24 hour notice before the regularly scheduled lesson pending on teacher availability. All make-up lessons must be completed before before the start of the next academic calendar year in September. Students who miss a lesson without notice or cancel after the scheduled beginning of their lesson will not be offered a make-up lesson or refund with the exception of extenuating circumstances. Lessons cancelled by the teacher can be rescheduled in the same month pending student availability or during a designated make-up lesson day on the academic calendar.

Students are expected to arrive on time for their scheduled lessons either online or in person. Lesson slots are not guaranteed to be extended to accommodate late arrival. A lesson is automatically cancelled if a student is over 15 minutes late without any prior communication about a late start.

  • Scheduled lessons must pre-paid either through a monthly or package payment plan depending on the the type of student enrollment.

Monthly payment plans are calculated based on the number of scheduled lessons in each month and is due on the 1st of each month. Package payment plans may be paid in full before before the first scheduled lesson or in equal pre-determined installments as indicated in the lesson package enrollment form. Lessons will be suspended if tuition is over two weeks delayed unless an alternative payment agreement has been previously agreed upon by both teacher and student or guardian.

Pre-paid lessons are non-refundable. Any remaining balance is automatically applied to make-up lesson or may be donated to the studio scholarship fund for underserved students.

  • Overview

The home studio is a separate room with closing doors in a home residence. Students and any accompanying family members are asked to remain in the studio and are not allowed to enter any other rooms with the exception of the restroom. Students under the age of 12 must be accompanied by their guardian at all times. Guardians are required to remain in the studio with their child for the entirety of the lesson. A student may be accompanied by a maximum of three family members in the studio.

    Instrument

Proper care of the instrument is essential to ensure the safety of the student, teacher, and the piano. Students are only allowed to touch the piano with explicit instruction from the teacher to do so. No beverages or items may be placed on the instrument. Students may not move, bang, hit, scratch, or otherwise damage the instrument. The lesson will be terminated if the student does not follow instructions regarding the handling of the instrument. Damage caused to the instrument by the student will be immediately documented in the presence of both student and guardian (if applicable). The instrument will be assessed by a technician and insurance company and the family will be responsible for the resulting repair bill.

    Studio Parking

Students may park in the free parking lot directly across the street from the studio. The studio does not assume liability for parking tickets, any damage to the vehicle or the contents within the vehicle once parked at the studio location.

    Covid-19 Policy

The teacher is fully vaccinated and maintains a weekly Covid-19 testing protocol during the academic year. Students are required to remain at home if they or their families are experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms or have been exposed to Covid-19. A Zoom lesson will be offered in place of an in-person lesson at the same time as the scheduled lesson or a make-up lesson at later time. In the event the teacher is exposed to Covid-19, all students will be notified for contact tracing purposes within 24 hours. Students and their family assume the inherent risk of contracting Covid-19 as a result of in-person activities at the home studio and will not hold the teacher liable in the event of contracting Covid-19.

  • Online lessons will be conducted through Zoom. Students will be provided with the Zoom link for their lesson 24 hours ahead of their scheduled lesson as well as instructions on how to prepare their device and optimize Zoom for a music lesson. The camera must be set up to enable a full view of the hands and upper body of the student for the lesson to proceed.

Students who opt for online lessons must have access to at least one, charged electronic device, (preferably a laptop or iPad) for their lessons and any necessary device holders. They are responsible for ensuring adequate internet connection with dedicated 1.8 mbps of upload and download speed per device.

Lessons interrupted by a technology failure or a power outage can be re-scheduled if the student or guardian notifies the teacher before or during the scheduled lesson time regarding the technology or power failure.

  • Students must have regular access to either an acoustic piano or a weighted key electric piano to practice between regularly scheduled lessons. The teacher can provide information on choosing an appropriate electric instrument for each student’s particular level and studying goals.

Piano maintenance and regular tuning is an essential aspect of owning an an acoustic instrument and is the responsibility of the student or guardian.

Note: An electric piano can only benefit a student for a limited amount of time; an acoustic piano is necessary for mastery of the instrument and is recommended for late beginner students and above.

  • Progress can not be achieved without consistent practice. Students should practice at least 3-5 days per week to complete all assignments from their previous lesson. Practicing time requirements vary for each student and should be frequently discussed with the teacher throughout the year to ensure optimal results.

  • Students or their guardians are responsible for purchasing required music books as well as any optional supplementary materials.
